Fillings and root canal treatment aim to save decayed teeth.
This is because no artificial tooth lasts as long or functions as well as a natural tooth.
When a decayed tooth is detected early, the decay is removed and the tooth is preserved with a simple filling.
However, if the decay has reached the pulp, the infected dentin layers and microorganisms inside the root canal are removed and the canal is disinfected, after which root canal treatment (endodontics) is carried out in one or two sessions.
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. Afterward there may be some pain lasting a few days, relieved by simple painkillers. The success rate of these procedures in our clinic is around 90–95%.
