The Link Between Plant-Based Food Consumption and Longevity

If you are interested in a vegan meal plan, some new data will most likely catch your attention. An article published on July 22, 2020 in The BMJ (British Medical Journal), one of the most important and prestigious journals in the medical literature, reported the results of 32 separate studies involving 715,000 people. All of these people were over 30 years of age, and their eating habits had been examined over a period of 3.5 years. According to the results, increasing plant protein in the diet by 3% reduces the risk of early death by 5%.

Similarly, an article published on July 13, 2020 in another medical journal, JAMA Internal Medicine, stated that switching just 3% of calorie intake from animal protein to plant protein reduced the risk of death from all causes by 10%. By sex, switching to plant protein reduced the risk of death by 24% in men and by 21% in women.
All of these studies show how important our diet is for our life cycle and lifespan. Of course, eating a particular food alone cannot be enough to extend our lifespan; nutrition needs to be addressed with a multifaceted, holistic approach.
