What is liposuction?
Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is not a weight-loss or slimming method. Rather, it aims to give the body a slimmer-looking, more proportionate shape by removing stubborn fat deposits that have accumulated in certain areas. In a sense, it sculpts the body like a sculptor. Despite all kinds of exercise and dieting, it is not possible to get rid of fat tissue that has collected in certain areas. These areas may include the abdomen, the area around the belly button, the back, legs, chest, face, chin, hips and thighs, or the upper arms.
Popularly known as belly fat removal or abdominal fat removal, liposuction is, in medical terms, the surgical aspiration of subcutaneous fat. The goal is to achieve attractive body contours while adhering to basic medical principles. Liposuction can be applied to specific areas of the body. Abdominal liposuction and upper leg liposuction are the procedures our patients ask about most, but it can also be applied to various areas such as the arms, under the chin and the back.
The VASER liposuction method is also performed at İzmir Can Hastanesi. With this method, some patients may experience less bruising and pain than with other methods; however, results vary from person to person.
Liposuction Procedures: How Do They Work and Who Are They Suitable For?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to remove a person's unwanted fat deposits.
Who should have liposuction?
- If fat deposits in certain areas of your body stubbornly persist, that is, do not go away, despite intensive dieting and exercise, and this bothers you aesthetically
- If your body weight does not fluctuate much, you are within 30% of your ideal weight, and especially if you have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone,
- If you do not have a significant health problem that would adversely affect healing and you do not smoke,
- If you want a smoother, more proportionate and slimmer body shape, you are an ideal candidate for liposuction.
Before and After Liposuction: What Should You Expect?
As the Can Hastanesi aesthetic and plastic surgery clinic, we recommend that liposuction always be performed by a highly experienced, competent, accredited plastic surgeon in an accredited hospital equipped for all kinds of emergencies and with full technical facilities. Before the procedure, the necessary physical examination and laboratory evaluations are carried out, and after informing you, we will decide together how much fat tissue will be removed from which areas and which method will be used. You should stop taking aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications, and you are advised not to smoke.
How is liposuction performed?
Liposuction uses specially designed thin cannulas to remove fat. A thin tube called a cannula is inserted through small, predetermined incisions, and a set amount of fat tissue is removed by suction. The following techniques can be used for this purpose:
A thin tube called a cannula is inserted through small, predetermined incisions, and a set amount of fat tissue is removed by suction.
Suction-assisted liposuction: the well-known classic method. Fat tissue is removed by suction.
Power-assisted liposuction: suction is accelerated with the help of a device that increases cannula vibration.
Ultrasound-assisted liposuction: in men and in large areas, fat tissue is liquefied using ultrasound energy and then suctioned out.
VASER: An ultrasonic method that distributes energy evenly through the multiple channels on its probe, making it easier to remove fat from the body. In addition, its heating effect is thought to help the underside of the skin contract and tighten.
Laser-assisted liposuction: it is thought that the laser, just like ultrasound, breaks down fat cells, allows aspiration to be performed faster and more effectively, and helps the underside of the skin to tighten more easily.
Because liposuction is performed through very small incisions, the scars are usually small and fade over time.
Can liposuction be performed after childbirth or a cesarean section?

At least six months must pass after childbirth before liposuction can be performed, because your body shape will continue to change during this period.
What should you pay attention to during recovery after liposuction?
There are a few points you should follow for care and recovery after liposuction surgery. For a few weeks after liposuction surgery, you must wear the compression garment recommended for you. After liposuction surgery, you should rest for a few days and avoid strenuous activities. Stopping blood-thinning medications such as aspirin and habits such as smoking, which delay wound healing, will have a positive effect on your recovery. Swelling and bruising that may appear within the first two days after surgery will return to normal within a few weeks. To prevent blood clots, we recommend that you start walking as soon as possible after surgery.
