Refractive Surgery (Laser Eye Surgery)
Laser eye surgery is popularly known in Türkiye as “göz çizdirme” (literally, having the eyes “etched”). Today's modern individuals want to be free of glasses and contact lenses for both distance and near vision and to enjoy more comfortable vision and a better quality of life. One of the methods used for this is reshaping the cornea with a laser. Although this is the most commonly used method worldwide for correcting myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism, a lens can also be implanted inside the eye in eyes that are not suitable for this surgery.
The laser method:
- Is a safe surgery.
- Aims to give you a comfortable life without glasses.
- Aims to let you see without glasses as well as you can with glasses. After laser treatment, 95% of people with myopia and 70% of people with hyperopia remain free of glasses.
- If laser treatment is performed while the prescription is still increasing, you may need to wear glasses again. For this reason, the prescription must have been stable for at least 1 year.
- If the prescription increases again, you may undergo a second surgery, depending on whether the eye is suitable.
- You can have cataract surgery after laser treatment.
Although various laser methods (such as PRK, No-Touch and SMILE) are available for correcting refractive errors, the most commonly used method worldwide, and the one with the most accumulated experience, is LASIK. LASIK surgery is performed bladelessly with the help of a femtosecond laser using the most modern systems (i-LASIK). The most important advantages of this surgery are safety and precision.

PRK: For refractive errors where the cornea is not thick enough for LASIK treatment, the epithelial layer on the corneal surface is removed and the underlying corneal tissue is reshaped with an excimer laser.
NO-TOUCH LASER – A laser treatment performed without touching the eye, with no contact.
Personalized laser treatment is also performed with a technology popularly known as ‘eagle eye’ (Wavefront Technology).
