High-intensity (HI) laser has been used with FDA approval since 2002 in musculoskeletal disorders for its ability to relieve pain quickly and speed up tissue healing through photobiostimulation.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
The basic mechanism of action of HILTERAPIA is tissue stimulation. It is thought to produce biostimulation through a polarization effect. Biostimulation at the level of cells, blood vessels, interstitial tissue and the immune system explains its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Through these properties, it supports tissue healing by increasing vascular permeability, blood flow and cell metabolism in deep tissues. An important feature of the laser is that it does not cause a significant change in tissue temperature.
How HILTERAPIA works in pain control:
- Laser treatment increases the release of endogenous opioids in the central nervous system, which results in central inhibition of pain sensation.
- Laser treatment reduces the release of substance P, which sensitizes pain-transmitting nerve cells in the peripheral system and increases the sensation of pain.
- Laser treatment slows the pain conduction velocity of A and C nerve fibers.
- Laser treatment reduces the release of bradykinin and histamine in tissues, which in turn reduces pain.
WHICH CONDITIONS IS IT USED FOR?
- Gonarthrosis (knee osteoarthritis)
- Hip osteoarthritis
- Fibromyalgia
- Lumbar and cervical disc herniations
- Tendinitis and bursitis
- Sports injuries
- Epicondylitis (tennis elbow, golfer's elbow)
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Scar treatment
- Diabetic wound treatment
