Cancer

Normally, our cells have a very well-controlled life cycle. When this regulation and control are disrupted by environmental and genetic factors, cells begin to multiply uncontrollably, and this forms the basis of cancer.

Symptoms:

The symptoms of cancer vary depending on the tissue and organ involved. As a general rule, patients with the following findings should visit a clinic without delay.

  • Weakness
  • Signs of anemia (pale skin)
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Advanced age
  • A family history of cancer, or a previous diagnosis of another cancer in the patient
  • Patients with a history of smoking
  • Changes in bowel habits (constipation or very thin stools)
  • Night sweats
  • Confusion and double vision
  • A feeling of food getting stuck in the esophagus when swallowing
  • In men, difficulty starting urination or a split urine stream
  • In women, roughening (orange-peel appearance) or dimpling of the breast skin, or a palpable lump
  • Vaginal bleeding in a woman who has gone through menopause

Treatment:

Today, the approach to cancer has come a long way, and new drugs that target specific organs have begun to produce encouraging results. In addition, surgery is performed depending on the location of the cancer and its suitability for surgery. Radiotherapy (radiation therapy) is another approach.
